Pawnshop No. 8 episode 11
In this particular episode, a computer genius pawns his genius for the ability to understand what his wife is thinking, in an attempt to salvage his marriage. They have been married for 3 years, but he keeps neglecting her for work, and his wife finally lost it when she miscarriage.
But as the show proceeds on, u realise that although he can understand what she is thinking, he doesnt really understands her. He noes what she likes, but not why she likes it. He noes what she wants, but doesnt get why she wants its. For example, the wife wants to go for high tea, shopping, then dinner. So he suggests the plan as if its his own in order to gain favour, however, the main issue is that she doesnt remember what he likes to eat anymore, since he eats at home so seldom. And he does nothing to remedy it. He accompanys her to high tea, but he doesnt appreciate the tea at all, and starts ordering soft drinks. He asks his wife why she likes it, but doesnt wait for an answer.
For a relationship to work, a couple really have to work hard to understand each other. Not just the likes and dislikes, but also the reasons behind it. If one party has to keep giving in, its not going to go well. Everyone has their limits, if one person gives in all the time, that limit will be reached very soon. If both of they are willing to compromise and take turns to give in to one another, then neither of them will feel pressured in an relationship. The stress doesnt build up that fast, and understanding will allow a couple to tolerate differences better.
The key to this, is communication. A couple has to talk things out. They have to try their best to understand why their partner doesnt like it when they do something. For example, the wife doesnt really hates his genius or his work. What his wife really hates, is the fact that he is so engrossed, he drops her and keeps her waiting, forgets impt days, and is not ard when she found out that she's pregnant and when she miscarriages. He found out everything too late. On his side, he thinks a married couple has all the time they want to work things out and spend time together in the future, like at some vague pt when he retires, after all marriage is for life, right? Pls lor, u dun have time to show her concern, to find out how she spends her days, who her friends are, wat she likes to do and dun attempt to understand why she likes them, who is going to stay with u for life?
I find the husband to be an big idiot, to expect his wife to understand when he doesnt go home for three days without telling her anything and being uncontactable throughout that whole time. Who wouldnt have blown their top? Unless they do not care for their husbands at all.
So many factors can affect a relationship. But truly, love is not enuf to sustain a relationship, i not even talking abt money issues here, i am talking abt truly understanding the person u love. Its hard. There are always things that u cannot understand and issues that u will both be stubborn about. A couple must always remember to place their relationship at first place, and be willing to work out differences for the sake of their relationship.
Taken from episode 12: 爱情,不是婚姻的全部,只是开启婚姻的一把钥匙。婚姻,也是信任、了解、依赖、关怀,和无限的牺牲奉献。

Pissed
No captain, no equiment, and only 2 other guys turned up. If i wasnt so sure i needed the practice, i would just appear on competition day where i at least can find somebody.
What a waste of time. Its not surprising why i devote myself to othello instead each yr. We have strong and close team, which has enuf power to conduct our own practice and get ppl to come down. And at the very least, the captains do not abandon practice without telling anyone and making arrangements. I was so pissed i smsed the sports sec threatening to quit if nobody can confirm practice and competition time with me.
Dear lord, why do i pity them and help them each yr? Thank goodness this is the last yr. And if i do come back to hostel, u can be sure it will not be to offer my services to the table tennis team EVER again (if one exists in the first place. how can a scattered bunch of ppl ever be considered a team? even if they are strong?).

GOLD
2nd was hall 10, 3rd was hall 6 and 4th was hall 9.

1st in Grp today! Semi and Finals tmr. Why i nv join othello but help table tennis!?!
This yr's teams was all guys, cas i'm not playing and S went back to India. P is not interested either. Guess hall 15 is turing back into an all guys team.
But the Guys did very well. We beat every single hall in our grp! :D Tmr is semi-finals vs hall 9 and then against either 6 or 10, if we in finals. Actually, I quite sure we can make it. As the guys put it, if they are weak enuf to be placed as 2nd in the grp, we shdnt wry abt playing them. Tho this sounds super arrogant. :P
Even tho I nv join othello this yr, I agreed to help table tennis play female doubles this yr. It was out of pity mostly. Cas the sports sec approached me a few hrs ago to personally ask, and they sound prett desperate. Besides, my usual hall doubles partner did the taiji on me, saying "if she play then i play" so i cant do the taiji anymore. At least i will noe my partner oso. Last yr she wasnt playing, and the whole thing felt so crappy. I dun even remember what position i played and with who. Tho its most likely doubles. The hall people already noe i dun have the skill or inclination to play singles. If they request I prob wont play. And they prob hoping casting me and my old partner will help them secure game. I doubt so lah. I nv play so long and so physically weak now. My partner shd still be fit, since she's an all round sportswoman type, but i noe she hardlys plays oso. Table tennis is like one of her least faves. Hmm... so y am i doing this again?

The Borders Temptation
Anyway, since I couldnt go library, I went shopping at Parkway Parade which was just a short walk away. And idling browse thru watever caught my fancy, including the Borders Bookshop. And there I found the 3 for 2 Borders "temptation", or more accurately, promotion. I think i'm very lucky, that tho plenty of the books caught my fancy, none of those that were part of the promotion were ones I really wanted to buy. If Mecerdes Lackey's Bardic Voices Series were among those books, I prob wont be blogging right now, I would have given in to temptation and bought them i think.
Still, I couldnt resist coping down a few titles and authors to add to my Read List (the to borrow one, of course). Think I will spend the rest of today, sorting out a book lists before I go library tmr. Am planning to go Jurong library tmr b4 I go back to NTU. The main purpose is to support othello team for comps, but since i'm not playing, am considering going late. So library 1st, then NIE to return the library bks I borrowed on dad's behalf, then to hall 8 to watch the hall games and support my team.
K, shd really get to work now sorting out that book list.
Hm.... An extra note to do with the weekend before this: Congrats on your Wedding, Kor Iceman. May you and wife have a happy honeymoon ahead. Was really touched by everything, but most especially by the effort u put into ur own wedding. Can really feel how much you love and treasure your wife and I am certain the two of you will have a happy and blissful marriage. :)

NEW BOOKS!
The Fire Rose is a story modeled after beauty and the beast. Where a young and beautiful girl was forced by circumstances to go to a large lonely mansion, and discovers that the master of the place is not exactly human! But that's abt where the similarities end.
This book is part of the collection of The Elemental Masters series by Mecerdes Lackey. Based on Magic which has purely European roots, mainly those of the British. The four Elements are Fire, Water, Air and Earth. Elementals are mythical creatures that are of a particular element and the Masters work magic by learning how to control them.
In The Fire Rose, the Beast is a Fire Master (meaning a magician with mastery over the Fire elementals) who accidentally hybrid himself with a wolf, when he sought the power to transform from men to wolf and back again at will. Slightly different from a werewolf where one is constrained by the power of the moon and has no control over the transformation, nor ability to retain human mind after transformation to wolf. In any case it failed, and he was stuck in a half-man, half wolf form.
With hands turned into paws, there was no way he could flip thru books and conduct the research he needed to turn himself back to human again and therefore seek the aid of a scholar and translator to be his hands and eyes and help him conduct the research.
The scholar he found was a young woman named Rosalind Hawkins, whose father has recenlty passed away and left her a mountain of debts. Therefore, like the scenario in Beauty and the Beast, it was the doting but usless father that cas his daughter to have no choice but to go to the beast. Who had offered high pay for a job as a tutor or governess who noes Latin, Greek and Medival French. Of course the whole thing sounds fishy but Rosalind was in debt, with no place to stay, and needed a means to survive. So she went and then discovered there were no children in the house, and her job was to read and translate ancient scripts into a speaking tube, to an owner who claims to have been disfigured in an accident. And from there the romance unfolds...
I believe it was bcas this book is successful that she decide to write the Elemental Masters Series. The story has many bits that does not quite fit in with the series and the Elementals that appear have much more of a character and intelligence than those in the series. This particular book also tried to insert a bit of chinese magic into the story and forcefully overlap it with Western magic. She must have regreted it for I think she did a better job incorporating Indian Magic in The Serpent's Shadow, which is officially the first book in the series.
In any case, it is totally wrong to say the chinese equivalent of the Master of Earth is the Master of the Dragon, cas according to Chinese lengends and myths, Chinese Dragons are essentially creatures with powers over water, controling the seas and the rains. It would have been more accurate to style them as the equivalent of the Master of Water or of Air (seeing that dragons control weather like Masters of Air do, tho Masters of Air mainly control the Winds and not the Rains, they both can cause storms). It is only in the West that dragons are a creature of mainly Earth and Fire, the Chinese view happens to be opposite.
But then again, the story is based in the West (San Franciso to be exact), and therefore one can hardly expect to find Chinese dragons there, even in the chinatown quarter. So I supposed one can say that the Chinese Magicians in the story are trying to explain theirs titles in a way Westerners could understand. Tho I still refuse to agree that they will proclaim that their rightful title is the Master of Dragon, especially when he claims that his roots in Magic are styled after Chinese customs.
Hmmm....... Personally, I think it would be more accurate to name dragon as the symbol of water, the phoenix for fire (which she also selected), the crane for air (she picked eagle) and maybe the unicorn for earth. Earth is the hardest to pick when I considered, cas lion, tiger, the bull and horse could fit in too. But I personally think the Unicorn would be a stronger symbol of power. The alternative would be to style them after the 四神兽 (four god beasts) in chinese legend, which guards the four pts of North, South, East and West. Which in turn should then make it easier to overlap with the Western idea of magic circle, with the power of each element guarding a certain direction (or shd i say area or land?).
Oh well, this are more or less useless musings since i'm not studying myths and legends for a degree. And if i really were to do so i would starve to death. Why do i only have useless interests and at most average ability and talent in them anyway. Oh well.... watever. Shall just not think too much and read my books.

I'm back!
Back track a bit. Us 4 girls went to taiwan on monday. 1st time for all of us and R was the only one with experience traveling free and easy. The rest of us hardly travel and the little experience we have is with tour grps or relatives to guide. I think we were very lucky all of us made it back safely in one piece, with only minor incidents along the way. :P
Must really thank R for putting in so much effort to arrange so many things b4 we left and guiding us throughout the whole trip. She was the last involved in our holiday plans but the one who made most of the arrangements and told us what to look out for. She even taught the three of us how to pack so everything would fit in our luggage. Else the three of us prob sit on the hotel floor and cry for a night or at least go without slp just to pack.
And of course, must thank my two gd friends, PF and Jerine. We did it!!! We planned and went on our own graduation trip and made it back safely!!! Hehe... Thanx to both of u for all ur help before and during the trip. Also for all the memories we made on this trip.
To all 3 of u, let's go on a holiday again in future. Tho I duno when we will have the chance again. hehe...
Taiwan was fun and I would like to go again. Even tho my expectations of manga heaven has been dashed. Still a bit disappointed that i didnt even get 1 manga from this trip. NOT even 1 manga, can you believe it? *sobs* oh well.

Exams are OVER!!
Tarot card
Hmm... i havent really been practicing my tarot also. Oh well, will start after exams, which is like after the paper abt 12 hrs later. okay, to bed now.

You are The Moon
Hope, expectation, Bright promises.
The Moon is a card of magic and mystery - when prominent you know that nothing is as it seems, particularly when it concerns relationships. All logic is thrown out the window.
The Moon is all about visions and illusions, madness, genius and poetry. This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. You may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial; if you have any past mental problems, you must be vigilant in taking your medication but avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause them irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. You can and should trust your intuition.
What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

moony report complete
While doing research for moony report, came across something which totally pissed me off. The lesson plan which one of the grps used for the mock lesson was COPIED. It was a lesson plan which won a place in creative lesson plan design in 2003. I was looking thru the award winning lesson plans and I saw it there. The WHOLE lesson was EXACTLY the SAME. Right down to the pt where students are suppose to write a paragraph based on a pic they drew with a circle and two triangles. AM SO PISSED! Everyone work hard to come up with their own and this is wat they did.
Oh well. Exams are coming. Study first. Not like being pissed will change anything. And purposely telling cher is spiteful and might not get the desired result.
Think happy stuff like going Taiwan after exams. Speaking of which, I found out there is a Neko Cafe at Taiwan!!! A cat cafe is a place where you can go to play with cats. Especially for ppl who like cats but cant keep them as pets. I wanna go!!! But its at Taichung. We only spending half a day there. I initially didnt wanna go Taichung at all. Just wanna explore Taipei properly. Now i want to go. I dun even mind if the others get bored and just leave me at the cafe till its time to go back while they explore Taichung on their own. But the cafe doesnt open that early, ard 10am or 11am. Wonder if got time to go at all. Its supposedly the first Cat cafe in Asia. Maybe the world as well.

hmm.....
And bcas I have been slacking, i cant keep up with work and have been dragging other ppl down. This is not gd. No matter how much I slacked in the past I kept up with work. Sigh. I need to start working harder. At least till i get back to a normal standard. Slacking is fine, drowning is fine. Dragging other ppl with you is not. Can't be so irresponsible. Which is how I have been behaving lately.
Apologies to those I troubled. I will buck up.

Dance Performane
As it turns out, I got a great view of the stage. Could even clearly see the features of all the cute guys. :p The music and lights were still bearable so it didnt affect me too badly.
I liked the performance. :) Quite a bit, in fact. They included dances with storylines and those were the ones that I enjoyed the most.
duet "Where did my baby go?"
A lovely story about a guy missing his wife while he is overseas away from her. The twist in the story is that the wife has actually died while he was overseas and appeared beside him while he was thinking of her. Was wondering why he didnt notice her around, until they added the news report to reveal that she died in a fire. I especially like the part where the wife suddenly realises that shes a ghost. She tried to touch him but her hand went 'through'. Not for real, of course, but her expression and body language was great, like she was shocked, amazed and fearful all at the same time.
But the star attraction was the male dancer (naturally, since the wife was dancing as a memory or as a ghost), and his skills were fantastic. I mean, have you ever since a guy roll from the floor onto the sofa!?! And his movement was so fluid, as if it doesnt cause him any difficulty at all. I like the dance style used as well, elegant, fluid and graceful moves, making all the difficult moves look like they are done with ease.
Fatal Blunder
My friend was the main heroine in this dance, am like absolutely delighted for her. :) I believe she needs more of such roles since she is going to focus on dancing.
The story is about a love triangle which crossed nations, with two kings or warlords or the like fighting over a woman (acted by my friend). Ending up with the hero who started the war to snatch the woman killing both his rival and his love.
The storyline was clear cut and the dance was beautiful. I like the part where after the woman was snatched away by the rival, they did a split act, with one side acting out the woman being abused and the other showing the king being advised to start a war to get his love. But I wished it were a slight bit slower, as I barely managed to take in the details on both sides.
The finale shows the king commiting suicide and being buried by (what I believed to be) the souls of those who died in war. I found that part more amusing than dramatic or horrifying, really. Think it might be better if they didn't bury the king.

My friend and the Choreo. Same guy for the duet by the way.
In the limelight
About a famous movie star's life. I like the choreography for that as well. They gave the whole thing a very hollywood effect. The bodyguards were the ones who really reinforced the feel. And the main dancer, who's also choreographer, was great. The finale, in which he commited suicide by shooting himself in the head had a very real feel to it. I actually jumped when he "shot" himself. I am very glad I dun often scream when startled. But the timing of the finale act was really superb, the way he fell as well.
Wonder if I should get tickets to this coming weekend's dance but I got no one to go with. *sniffs* anyone interested in watching dance performances?

甲:我说着b-r-b的意思是,"be right back", “我去去就来”。
甲:我是说i-d-k的意思是“I don't know",也就是“我不知道”。
ps. found a different version of 《口吐莲花》i only embed part 2.

Wondering about relationships
Its really hard to maintain a gd relationship. You see couples happily married and you see breakups and you see ppl managing in between. A lot of factors have to be taken into consideration. Any common interests? Are your views on the future the same? Each others' habits, likes and dislikes. How much are you willing to compromise and what you abolutely cannot accept?
What do you do when things clash? Give in or insist?
What do you do when u all get distant? Say in a long distance relationship or simply bcas you've been dating for too long and things got a bit stagnant?
I think there's no correct answer. It all simply amounts to how much does it matter to both parties and how hard are they willing to work for it.
In novels, the heros and heroines dun have that many mudane problems. Why? because then no one will read it of course. Therefore they are usually rich or in cinderella situations. All monetary problems solved. Dun have to worry if you earn enuf to buy a house, pay wedding dinner and bills. They all get along very well. No fights over who does housework and who has to stay at home and look after kids. You have money, you have servants. You and ur love can happily spend time doing anything you want or blissfully doing nothing but enjoy each other's company.
Reality is a lot different.
Do you follow your dreams or do you want to eat? Can your love really be substained on water alone? Or even on basic necessities?
Sometimes ppl are so blinded they bit off more than they can chew. And sometimes ppl are so frank they hurt each other and ruined what they have. Sometimes its a single party fighting a losing battle.
Love has been a popular topic over many years. I think the reason its still popular, its cas the perfect solution doesnt exsist. Everyone must search for their own solutions, and you will nv noe if it is perfect. You will only know if it is not.
Right now, I must mention that I am really impressed by my parents who have been happily married for over 20 yrs. Its not easy and I want to thank them for maintaining their relationship so well and giving my sis and I a happy and complete family.
Really want to thank my bf too, for hangging in there with me. I know i'm troublesome. Let's continue to work hard dear. And thank you very much for loving me.
Sorry to all those who are reading for getting kinda mushy. :P

Fussy but responsible bus driver
On my ride home, the bus driver came up to the upper deck to tell ppl of 3 times. Each time, he stopped at the bus stop, and climbed up to the upper deck to get the passengers to go down. Hmm... he wasnt too nice about it, since he shouted at them a little. But its nice to see ppl doing their jobs and being responsible about it. Good job Mr Bus Driver. :)

I tired
I've been helping my mum. These 2 days have been doing a lot of buying, carrying, rearranging and some cleaning. My mum is a very last min person. She suppose to start work on coming Monday and she left so many things till last min. Sat and Sun she's not free some more, so these two days were a mad rush to try and finish everything. And since we had to buy lots, and there were rather bulky stuff, we had to take taxi. No way a bus would work and I must say I'm very glad we didnt have to attempt that.
Anyway, she cant start on Monday now, due to some problems. Personally, I think its a blessing in disguise, cas she gets one more day to prepare. But she seems to be put off by it.
Sorry if all these is still extremely vague, but its mainly my mum's business and I dun think I shd say too much. But still I wanted to complain a bit. Two days all gone! *sobs* And I'm so tired. Sigh.

Sigh
My bf is angry at me again. Sigh... wish he doesnt get pissed off so easily. We havent settled plans yet oso, need to confirm by tmr. Wonder if can manage.
I'm tired and slpy but I dun feel like slping. So sian. Why must I have lesson tmr? I really dun like the cher. And need to bring laptop oso. So troublesome. :(
I wonder if I should change the setting on my blog so strangers can find me after all. Its so boring when no one comments. I know my blog isnt very interesting. But I'll like a bit of interaction too. Or am I the only weird one in this world so no one noes what to comment to my stuff?

Romeo no Aoi Sora
The original title is Fratelli Neri, which means 'black brothers'. Its a story set in Milan, Italy, about the lives of boys who had to work as chimney sweeps. Apparently, they had a system there where boys from poor villages were bought to work as chimney sweeps in Milan for a year. The story follows one such boy, Romeo, from his village till he returns. The focus is how all the chimney sweeps that year grouped themselves together into the 'black brothers' and work together to help each other to survive the year. They were known as the 'black brothers' because due to the nature of the jobs, they spend most of their time blacken by soot.
Wish I can read the novel. Sigh.

An unexpected find
Today, was trying to search for the drama or movie for 《红楼梦》, since I have to read the text and watching helps understanding it better if nothing else. Since the search there cant read chinese, am having a hard time searching using english (got lots of rubbish and nothing close). But surprisingly, among the rubbish I found a bookworm group page with some great reading recommendations!
My list of new to find:
1) Tamora Pierce books - another fantasy author to take note of. I read some of her books before I think, but not too sure.
2)Frances Hodgson Burnett books - author of the secret garden. Never thot of searching to see if she wrote others, the review for "the little princess" interested me.
3) Jane Austen's Emma - I already read (and own) pride and prejudice as well as sense and sensibility.
In case you were wondering: Nope, I didn't find Dream of the Red Chamber (or Mansion). The only thing even remotely related is a song based on one of the characters, and I can't understand a word of it. Don't know any dialect and there are no subtitles. Think is in Cantonese. Its called 黛玉笑了。

Inter Block Games
Didn't see anyone who is particularly good, or has great potential, not like last year. But there are a few likely candidates. :) Its already better than the year before. Hopefully, this year we can keep a few more ppl. And I really hope we can train up a few more strong newbies to take over the team next year.
Sadly, our stupid rec sec decided to ban team one members, so my blk only got 2nd, since most of our players live in the same blk. Then he himself go play for his blk *roll eyes* (they got first, btw, so its like totally unfair >.<). Oh well.

bookworm, bookwyrm
Love Mercedes Lackey's novels. They are the absolute best. The Five Hundred Kingdoms is a relatively new series to me, and I have only read A Good Knight. Still, I love the story. It sastifies a lot of girlish notions and preferences. :P The bookwyrm bit entertained me quite a bit. Imagine a dragon that loves to read, is peace loving and consider books as a great treasure. And the idea of the dragon having a library...... Well, I believe I need not elaborate on that.
If there is a way to turn into one, I probably wouldn't have minded that much. Except my boyfriend would never agree to join me. Sadly, he doesnt like books as much as I do. And he is too down to earth to enjoy fantasy and fantasizing. Really, Andie and Peri are just too lucky. But then again, storybook heros and heroine always get their perfect ending. Especially in a novel like this which is modelled after a fairytale.
Ohh... I really want to get my hands on the first book in the series but I don't have the time to hunt through libraries. I really don't want to start collecting another series until I finish collecting the Elemental Master series as well. Most importantly, there is no place for me to keep my books at home anymore. :( When I get my own house, I would really like to have a study that looks like a mini library (filled with shelves :P). Don't I wish.
